<image:caption>West Edmonton Mall written by Patti Flather Is there life without the Fantasyland Hotel? Not for Christine. West Edmonton Mall is a one-woman play about isolation, go-nowhere jobs and been-nowhere boyfriends...and it's about getting from the Yukon to the Polynesian Room in the Fantasyland Hotel in the middle of winter before you turn 30. TUMIT written by Reneltta Arluk TUMIT explores cycles from generation to generation. Based in an apartment in the city, Sarah, discovers she is pregnant and has to move out of the place she once shared with David. As she packs, Sarah disjointedly journeys through her life revisiting familial relationships and places. Can cycles ever really be broken? TUMIT, meaning "tracks" in Inuktitut, weaves contemporary and traditional storytelling together.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This part of the play reading series explores the 1960's, 70's and 80's when many southern writers began exploring the history of the arctic and when northerners began telling their own stories. Here we feature a multi-dimensional performance piece from Tunooniq Theatre of Pond Inlet, NU called Changes, excerpts from Robertson Davies, Question Time, and Inook and the Sun by Henry Beissel; about an Inuit boy whose father is killed during a mid-winter hunt and goes in search of the sun. He finds it imprisoned in an iceberg and ends up finding a way to set it free.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Written by Chantal Bilodeau The first play of an Arctic Cycle, Sila examines the competing interests shaping the future of the Canadian Arctic and local Inuit population. Set on Baffin Island in Nunavut, it follows a climate scientist, an Inuit climate change activist and her daughter, two Canadian Coast Guards, an Inuk Elder and a polar bear mother and cub as their lives become intricately intertwined. Equal parts Inuit myth and contemporary Arctic policy, Sila features three different languages, english, french and inuktitut.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Written by Judith Thompson A searing and poetic look at ourselves, our society, and our mythology. Sled begins and ends in the Canadian North, a world of unforgiving isolation and mystical change. The other landscape is a Toronto neighbourhood which proves to be equally harsh and mythical under its quiet surface.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Northern Play Reading Series</image:title>
<image:caption>Written by Ben Nind Everett George Klipper was a mechanic's helper in Pine Point, NWT in 1964. One afternoon, the RCMP brought him in for questioning about a fire that was set on the front porch of the mine manager's house. Everett could have kept silent but instead he told his truth. His story was to pierce the heart of the small mining town and challenge the established institutions of justice, politics and relationships all the way to Parliament Hill and the Prime Ministers Office. The script will be presented as a "work in progress". Extreme Language and Content Warning!!! For very mature audiences only.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Written by Marie Clements Ending our play reading series is Burning Vision. It unmasks both the great lies of telling Dene miners they are digging for a substance to "cure cancer" while secretly using it to build the atomic bombs that devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki; and the seemingly small rationalizations and accommodations people of cultures construct to make their personal circumstances yield the greatest benefit to themselves for the least amount of effort or change on their part.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Tallis Kirby was raised in the tall trees of a company of Clydesdales on the long winding road from the back field down to the riverside, and the great blue beyond. He is proud to be the General Manager for Akpik Theatre. Tallis has been working on the outside since birth, a veteran of many aspects of the Arts, finding purpose where utility finds him; as a mariner, technician, rigger and and now as a professional engineer with Reliant Engineering as a co-founder. From one Caravan to another, the knowledge remains strong and vibrant from one Caravaner to the next. Here’s to bringing the knowledge back for us all.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2023 Tour - Barry Bilinsky</image:title>
<image:caption>Associate Director Barry Bilinsky (he/him) is a multidisciplinary Indigenous artist originating from Amiskwaciywaskahikan - Edmonton, Alberta. Primarily focused on the support, proliferation, and creation of Indigenous stories, he has worked in clown, theatre, film and animation. Often overlapping, these art forms explore the various interactions story have with the audience, be it interactive through clown, communal through theatre and immersive experience, or deeply intimate as with film. Studying Drama and English at the University of Alberta, Barry found that simplicity and honesty are the most vital components of his work. Collaborative, cultural exchange is a major focus for Barry, who is of Métis, Cree, and Ukrainian descent. Immersive theatre credits include: Assistant Director for Catch the Keys Dead Centre of Town IX, Woven Waters at Edmonton’s Found Theatre Festival, and The Lobbyists interactive dance and clown pieces at Expanse Festival. Barry’s largest immersive project is as the Creative Director of Content and Media for the world renowned “Indigenous Peoples’ Experience” immersive attraction in Edmonton, Alberta. This piece required nuance and awareness of several shifts in perspective when dealing with the complicated and erased history of Indigenous People in Canada as well as the practicalities of movement through a large exhibit. Barry refined his storytelling skills as Indigenous Artist in Residence at the National Theatre School of Canada.</image:caption>

There is something special about this show, the writing, the directing, the cast and crew, that I have never experienced. This unique beauty has come together to form such a beautiful show which I hope you enjoy as much as I have being apart of it. I just wanted to say to thank you to Renellta Arluk for standing by me and always supporting me. Love to my Pawakan family. Thank you for welcoming me home once again.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Performer čuu ʔuukłaasʔiš čačumḥi, aaron wells ʔuukłaasƛaḥ. Hello, my name čačumḥi - aaron wells is what I am also called. I am an indige-queer actor, singer and storyteller from the nuučaan̓uł and ts’ymsyen nations as well as English settler heritage and I was born and raised on Vancouver Island. I studied acting and musical theatre at the Canadian College Of Performing Arts in Victoria, BC. I have been involved in many workshops and world premieres of new Indigenous works across the country and none of this would have been possible without the love and support from my mułmumc, my roots. My friends and family. I have to give Big Love to Reneltta, I auditioned for her in 2017, at the start of my career, and has brought me into many a project over the years. A director/mentor turned friend, thank you! And a Big Love to Barry, our director, and to all who have made sharing this story with you, possible. čuu.</image:caption>
